Melissa's interest in talking into a microphone started young. She often played 'Radio DJ' at home with records, and 'News Anchor' reading aloud from her teen magazines. Her first opportunity to put all of that practice into use finally came in high school when she was chosen to do the morning announcements. She's been on a microphone ever since.
At Oakland University earning a communications degree, Melissa interviewed Detroit radio legend Dick Purtan for an assignment on 'Your Dream Job'. Soon after, she got a taste of her dream job while interning for Mr. Purtan on his morning show; running reel to reels, preparing the carts, answering the phone for contests and doing anything else needed. The experience was educational and inspirational.
During this time, Melissa began to volunteer for Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic - a service that offered recordings of required reading for people who needed them. Sitting in a small booth with a reel to reel recorder and a microphone while reading textbooks was fulfilling; it also led her to find a job at a small radio station in Walled Lake, Michigan.
At WPON Melissa had the opportunity to do everything, quite literally. Being on air, running the board for the many eclectic shows on the schedule, producing commercials, doing the billing and designing the website. One of the biggest highlights came when she had the opportunity to meet and work with Davy Jones of the Monkees, helping him record a voice over audition for a Peter Sellers Documentary.
With decades of talent agency representation and the addition of acting to her resume, Melissa continues to find regular work in voice overs, commercials, industrials, print and film. Her home recording studio has opened up opportunities worldwide; working for companies in the UK, Dominican Republic and South Africa.
In her free time, Melissa is a dancer, volunteer crisis counselor for Crisis Text Line, and standardized patient for a local medical school.
